Expose your variables

July 14, 2023

As soon as Figma released an update with variables, I started using them and telling others about them.

Although it’s still in beta, variables have slowly started to gain traction in my company. But a big problem arose — developers have nowhere to view the list of variables.

It’s terribly inconvenient. You can’t view the variables; you can only stumble upon them. Yes, the designer can specify them all in the UI kit and add them as needed when something changes, but it’s a very strange and clearly unnecessary task.

I decided to bridge the gap — I wrote a plugin that displays a frame with all the variables, groups them by collections, and updates with just one click.

Check out Expose variables — store variables in the UI kit, simplify your life, and delight developers. And if anything changes in the variables, simply select the generated frame and run the plugin again.
